What exactly is a custom license disc holder?

A license disc holder is a clear circular PVC sleeve that sticks to a vehicle's windscreen and holds the government motor vehicle licence disc in place. Every registered vehicle in South Africa must display a valid licence disc — so every car already needs one of these.

Our holders have a custom full-colour printed back panel — the side that faces inward toward the car's occupants. This printed panel displays your company logo, phone number, tagline, or any design you choose, turning every customer's windscreen into a long-term branded advertisement for your business.

💡 The disc holder sits on the windscreen for the full licence period — typically 12 months — meaning your brand is seen by the driver and every passenger, every single day for a year or more.
What part of the holder gets printed — the front or the back?

We print on the back panel — the side that faces into the car toward the occupants. The front of the holder faces outward through the windscreen and remains clear/transparent so the actual government licence disc (which sits inside the holder) remains clearly visible from outside as required by law.

From inside the car, a driver or passenger looking up at the windscreen sees your branded back panel clearly every time they glance toward it.

✅ This design is fully legal — the government disc faces outward and is clearly visible. Only the back panel, which faces inward, carries your branding.
What size are the disc holders?

Our holders are 75mm in diameter, which is the standard size to accommodate South African motor vehicle licence discs. They fit all standard passenger vehicles, bakkies, SUVs and light commercial vehicles.

The holder adheres to the inside of the windscreen using a pre-applied self-adhesive strip — no tools or additional glue required.

What material are the holders made from?

The holders are made from clear PVC (polyvinyl chloride) — a durable, flexible plastic that is UV-resistant, waterproof, and designed to withstand the harsh temperature fluctuations of a parked vehicle's windscreen, including the intense South African sun.

We offer three finish options for the printed back panel:

  • Standard Matte — clean professional look, anti-glare surface, included in base price
  • Gloss Laminated (+R2.50/unit) — shiny finish that makes colours more vibrant and vivid
  • Anti-UV Premium (+R4.00/unit) — maximum fade resistance, recommended for long-term use or extreme heat environments
How long does the holder last on a windscreen?

The holder is designed to last the full 12-month licence period and typically much longer. The PVC material and adhesive are rated for outdoor use in temperatures from -10°C to 80°C — well within the range of a South African windscreen.

The printed back panel retains its colour and clarity throughout the holder's lifespan. With our Anti-UV Premium finish, colours remain vivid for 2–3 years of continuous windscreen exposure.

⚠️ Holders are not designed to be removed and reapplied. Once removed (e.g., when the car is sold), a new holder should be applied.

Ordering Process
6 questions
What is the minimum order quantity?

Our minimum order is 50 holders per design. This is because our process involves a custom print setup for each unique design, which makes very small quantities uneconomical.

Most of our clients order between 100 and 500 units at a time. There is no upper limit — we regularly fulfil orders of 1,000+ units for larger chains and national campaigns.

💡 If you have multiple branches, each branch can use the same design, allowing you to consolidate into a single larger order at a lower per-unit price.
Can I see a proof before you print?

Yes — absolutely, every time, no exceptions. We will never print a single holder before you have reviewed and approved a digital proof.

Once you submit your order and artwork, our design team produces a high-resolution digital proof showing exactly how the back panel will look when printed. This is emailed to you within 1 business day.

You can request revisions to the proof — colour adjustments, text changes, repositioning — at no extra cost. Once you reply with written approval, we begin production.

✅ Your approval is required before printing begins. This protects you from receiving holders that don't match your expectations.
Can I order multiple different designs in one order?

Yes. If you have multiple branches or need different designs (e.g., separate designs for Sales and Service departments), you can order multiple designs in one transaction. Each design requires a minimum of 50 units.

For example, a dealership group could order 100 holders with their main logo design and 50 holders with a specific campaign design — all in one order, on one invoice.

How do I place an order?

You can order directly on our website in 4 simple steps:

  • Upload your artwork — your logo or design file
  • Customise the design — adjust colours, add text, preview the back panel live
  • Choose quantity and finish — select from our pricing tiers
  • Enter company details and pay — secure payment via PayFast (card, EFT, SnapScan)

Alternatively, you can email your artwork and requirements to [email protected] or WhatsApp Sandi on +27 74 546 3921 and we'll handle the order manually.

Can I reorder the same design later?

Yes. We keep your approved artwork on file. When you're ready to reorder, simply contact us with your company name and the quantity you need. Reorders are processed quickly since we already have your approved design — no new proof required unless you want to make changes.

✅ Most clients reorder every 3–6 months as they distribute holders to new customers. Reorders are typically processed faster than first-time orders.
Do you offer samples before I place a full order?

We can produce a small sample run of 5–10 holders with your design before you commit to a full bulk order. Sample runs are charged at a higher per-unit rate (as there is no economy of scale) and are offered at our discretion for new clients who want to physically verify quality before committing.

Contact Sandi on WhatsApp or email to discuss whether a sample run is right for your situation.

Artwork & Design
6 questions
What file format do I need to supply my artwork in?

We accept the following file formats:

  • PNG — best for logos with transparent backgrounds (recommended)
  • SVG — vector format, scales perfectly to any size (ideal)
  • AI (Adobe Illustrator) — vector, professional quality
  • PDF — vector or high-res raster
  • JPG/JPEG — acceptable if high resolution
⚠️ Please avoid supplying logos taken from websites or social media — these are typically low resolution (72dpi) and will appear blurry when printed. Your graphic designer or brand manual will have a high-resolution version.
💡 If you only have a low-resolution logo, contact us. In many cases we can recreate or upscale your artwork at a small additional charge.
What resolution should my artwork be?

For raster images (PNG, JPG), we recommend a minimum of 500×500 pixels at 300dpi for sharp print quality on a 75mm disc holder. Larger is always better — a 1000×1000px or 2000×2000px file will produce the best results.

For vector formats (SVG, AI, PDF), resolution is not a concern as vectors scale to any size without quality loss.

What makes a great disc holder design?

The back panel is a 75mm circle — not a huge canvas. The best designs are bold, simple and immediately readable from a glance. Here's what works well:

  • Large, clean company logo — centred and prominent
  • Phone number in large text — this is the most-used piece of information on a disc holder
  • Short tagline — "Your trusted service partner" or similar
  • Brand colours as the background — makes the holder instantly recognisable

What doesn't work well:

  • Thin, small text — illegible when printed at 75mm
  • Very light designs on a white background — disappears against the windscreen
  • Too much information — keep it to 2–3 elements maximum
  • Complex fine detail — small detail is lost in print
Can you design the back panel for me?

Yes. If you don't have a ready-to-print design, our team can create one for you. Simply provide:

  • Your company logo (in any format you have)
  • Your phone number and/or website
  • Any tagline or message you want included
  • Your brand colours (or we'll match your logo colours)

Design assistance is charged at a flat rate — contact Sandi for current pricing. The designed artwork remains yours to keep and use for future orders.

Can I use a photograph as the background design?

Yes, photographs can be used as the background of the disc holder's printed panel. A high-quality photograph (minimum 1000×1000px) of a vehicle, showroom, team or branded asset can work very well as a background, with your logo and contact details overlaid on top.

Our online designer tool allows you to upload a photo and overlay text directly, or you can send us your design and we'll prepare the print-ready file.

How many times can I revise the proof?

We offer unlimited proof revisions at no additional cost. We want you to be 100% happy with the design before a single holder is printed. In practice, most clients approve the design within 1–2 rounds of revisions.

Simply reply to the proof email with your requested changes and we'll update and resend within 1 business day.

Printing & Quality
5 questions
How long does printing take?

Our standard production turnaround is 7–10 business days from the date your artwork proof is approved. This timeline covers printing, quality inspection, and preparing your order for dispatch.

The full timeline from order placement to delivery typically looks like this:

  • Day 1: Order placed, artwork uploaded
  • Day 1–2: Digital proof emailed to you for approval
  • Day 2–3: You approve the proof (or request revisions)
  • Day 3–12: Production (7–10 business days from proof approval)
  • Day 13–15: Dispatch and delivery (1–3 days for major centres)
⏱️ Express turnaround of 3–5 business days is available on request. Contact Sandi before ordering to check express availability for your delivery date.
What print quality can I expect?

We print at high resolution using full-colour digital printing directly onto the PVC back panel. Colours are vibrant and sharp, with accurate colour matching to your brand guidelines.

We match colours to your supplied artwork as closely as possible. If your brand has specific Pantone or CMYK colour codes, please include them with your artwork to help us achieve the most accurate match.

✅ Every batch is quality-checked before dispatch. If any holders in your order have print defects, they are replaced before shipping.
Will the colours look exactly like my logo?

We aim to match your brand colours as closely as possible. There are a few factors that can cause minor variation:

  • Screen vs. print colour differences — colours on screen (RGB) are displayed differently to printed colours (CMYK). Blues and greens in particular can shift slightly.
  • Material surface — printing on PVC can slightly affect colour vibrancy compared to paper.

If precise colour matching is critical, please provide your brand's CMYK values with your artwork, and opt for the Gloss Laminated finish, which produces the most vivid and accurate colour output.

The digital proof we send before printing will give you a good indication of the final colours. Minor real-world variation from screen to print is normal across all printing technologies.

Where are the holders manufactured?

Our disc holders are manufactured and printed entirely in South Africa. This allows us to maintain quality control throughout the process, support local employment, and keep turnaround times short. We do not import pre-printed holders from overseas.

What if some of the holders in my order are defective?

Every batch is quality-checked before dispatch. In the unlikely event that defective holders slip through, we have a straightforward replacement policy:

  • Report the defect within 14 days of receiving your order
  • Send a photo of the defective holders via email or WhatsApp
  • We will replace defective units at no charge and dispatch replacements promptly

We stand behind our print quality. If the problem is on our side, we fix it — no arguments, no hassle.

Typical delivery times once your order is dispatched:

  • Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban: 1–2 business days

Can you deliver to multiple branches in one order?

Yes. If you have multiple branches and want a portion of your order delivered to each location, we can split and deliver to multiple addresses from a single order. Each delivery address is treated as a separate shipment.

Additional delivery charges may apply for split deliveries to multiple locations — contact Sandi to discuss the best arrangement for your situation.

Will I get tracking for my delivery?

Yes. Once your order is dispatched, we email you a courier tracking number so you can monitor your shipment in real time on the courier's website. You'll also receive a notification when the order is delivered.

Can I collect my order instead of having it delivered?

Collection may be possible depending on your location. Contact Sandi on WhatsApp or email to arrange a collection — we'll confirm whether this is feasible and provide the address and collection instructions.

What happens if my order is lost or damaged in transit?

In the rare event that an order is lost or significantly damaged in transit, we will reprint and resend your order at no charge. We manage the courier claim on our side — you don't need to deal with the courier directly.

If your order arrives with minor transit damage (e.g., a dented box but contents intact), please photograph it on arrival and report it to us within 48 hours so we can assess and resolve it quickly.

  • Print defects — if holders are defective due to a printing error on our side, we will reprint at no charge.
  • Design error on our side — if the printed design differs from the approved proof due to our error, we reprint at no charge.
⚠️ This is why we always send a proof for approval before printing — once you approve the proof and printing is complete, we cannot offer refunds for change-of-mind or errors in the artwork you supplied.

Industries & Use Cases
4 questions
Which types of businesses order from CLDH?

Our primary clients are businesses that regularly interact with vehicle-owning customers. The most common industries we serve are:

  • Car dealerships and franchised service centres — hand a branded holder to every service customer when returning their vehicle
  • Insurance companies — include a holder in every policy welcome pack or annual renewal mailer
  • Fuel stations — offer as a loyalty reward or freebie with a fill-up
  • Tyre and fitment centres — give to every tyre fitment customer
  • Banks and financial services — include in vehicle finance welcome packs
  • Fleet management companies — brand the full fleet with consistent holders
How do dealerships typically use branded disc holders?

Dealerships and service centres are our biggest client category. The most common use case is simple and effective: when a technician returns a customer's vehicle after a service, a branded disc holder is placed on the windscreen as part of the handover process.

The holder typically carries the dealership's name, service contact number, and possibly the customer's next service date reminder. Every time the customer drives their car, they see your dealership's branding and number — and when it's time for the next service, they call you instead of searching for an alternative.

✅ At R8–R9 per unit, a branded disc holder costs less than a standard A4 print job but generates 12 months of daily brand impressions. The ROI is exceptional.
Can insurance companies include a claims number on the disc holder?

Absolutely — and this is one of the most effective uses of branded disc holders for insurers. Printing a large, clear claims number on the back panel means your policyholders always have your emergency contact number visible when they need it most: immediately after an accident, when stress is high and phones may be out of reach.

Insurance companies typically include a holder in welcome packs, renewal letters, or send a batch to their broker network for distribution to policyholders.

Can I order holders for a vehicle fleet?

Yes. Fleet orders are straightforward — one design, any quantity above 50 units. Whether you have a fleet of 60 delivery vehicles or 600 company cars, we can print the full batch with your company branding and deliver to your fleet manager or multiple depots.

For fleets requiring unique information on each holder (e.g., vehicle registration number or individual driver details), contact Sandi to discuss variable data printing options.
